In Atlanta Public Schools, world language instruction begins in elementary school. APS is one of the only districts in the state of Georgia to have a comprehensive world languages program that begins on elementary school level in all elementary schools. For the 2017 - 2018 school year, the APS World Language Program will continue to provide opportunities for middle school students to earn high school credit. Below is an overview explaining the the course progression.
It is imperative that parents are involved in the education of their children; therefore, Parent Letters should be distributed by the world language teacher during the first couple weeks of school. The parent letters have been translated into several languages to ensure that our parents who have a language other than English are also informed. For these parents, schools should send the letter home with English on one side and the home language of the parent on the other if a language other than English is spoken at home. If you are not sure of the home language of a student, please check with the ESOL teacher assigned to your school.
